Run and Ride, has joined up with TitaniumGeek to offer a Run and Ride Discount Code. So what does that mean for the site, and what is going to be the benefit to you the reader? Let me explain…
Run and Ride Partnership with TitaniumGeek!
I occasionally get offers to advertise on TitaniumGeek. They basically fall into two camps; either sports products or betting services. I’m really sorry but I’m NOT going to advertise betting shops, and if it is a product I’m reviewing or likely to review, I don’t like the idea of the bias that would come with putting an advert for a product on the site. I want people to be able to read my opinion and trust that opinion when I say a product is great, or when it is naff
It is the same as reading a scientific journal article supporting the theory that dietary fibre reduces the risk of coronary heart disease, but then finding out Kellogs Fruit and Fibre funded the study – B
Seriously I had that as an interview task: “Analyse and present this paper from the BMJ“. I may have gone a little OTT in attacking the paper for its bias but part of that may have been as it felt that though they had tried to hide a potential conflict.
So basically the site ticks along by using Google Adverts – perhaps not the best option, but means I don’t have to worry about conflicts, and the income covers the server costs, and most of the fuel when I go to place
Oddly enough, one of the places I end up quite regularly is Run and Ride, who have been exceptionally helpful when it comes to getting review units at times. Companies don’t tend to return your emails if you have given them a bad review on any product. HOWEVER, it’s in Run and Ride’s interest to carry fewer items which are likely to be returned. So we’ve both benefited so far
I also tend to pop up there with another Zwifter – the bean pole in the photo – David Owen – who runs the UK Zwift Facebook group, and it also acknowledged as one of the tallest men in the world at 6ft 6! Apparently, his head and feet are in different time zones!!
One of the reasons I have an affinity for Run and Ride is that it is a local bike shop which really tries to be more than just a brick and mortar store with an online shop. There is a strong focus on using the products which are available and encouraging people to push themselves. Off the back off this Run and Ride has hosted several Zwift events in the past.
Along with hosting talking individuals such as Dr Garry Palmer from SportsTest, looking at the common pitfalls which befall athletes and what can be done to try and overcome them
Just about every weekend going Run and Ride supports the local park run. With athletes and patrons turning out in all weathers for the 5km run around the Cannock hills
Over the winter period, the upstairs is converted into a Zwift Community, holding races and training sessions. I think this is key for me when it came to partnering with Run and Ride. Community is a very strong driving force there.
Yes, there are affiliate schemes with Wiggle and Amazon which might prove to be more lucrative for the site. HOWEVER I run TitaniumGeek as a hobby, and I’m very grateful that companies like Tacx, Elite, Wahoo, and Polar to name but a few allow me to borrow and play with their toys. The point is, whilst signing up for an affiliate might be more sensible, it also feels a little soulless. Let me put that into perspective
The main benefit for me in this partnership is, as mentioned Matt helps me access gadgets for review, and also helps keep my Scott Foil bike in tip top racing condition. But it could be argued that Matt is not the worlds greatest business man
I was sat in the Lichfield store, basically chatting and writing a TG post whilst Matt fettled the bike before the London Triathlon. A man and his child come into the store with the child bike having a bent disc rotor. I didn’t realise that you could even get children’s bikes, aged 5, with disc brakes! Anyway, the boy had crashed, botched his bike and was now rather upset. Matt looked at it, smiled and said he was pretty sure he could straighten it out.
10 mins later, and the disc is still bent. You see Matt is a runner, not a weight lifter! Undeterred Matt reaches behind him, takes a new rotor off the wall and fits it to the child’s bike. The dad asks how much and Matt waves him away. “I said I’d fix it, and I did. Don’t worry about it”
So Amazon might be more successful, but I’d prefer to be associated with a man like Matt Williams!
Nice story – Now where’s the discount?!
Pretty simple, enter the code “
So there we have it. 10% off Run and Ride Discount using “TIGEEK” code – seems pretty simple to me.
I’m going to reiterate, I’m not getting any financial cut here. Just getting assistance with bike maintenance. However my hope is that when evaluate the effectiveness of the code over the next few months, it will have been successful enough to open that conversation.
So if you feel you would like to help support TitaniumGeek, you’ve now three ways:
1) Click an advert – go on!! You know you want to!
2) Purchasing power meters via the CyclePowerMeters.com 10% discount code “titaniumgeek10”
3) Run and Ride discount code purchases – whether it by running, cycling or nutrition
So here is the low down:
- We will offer a discount to readers TitaniumGeek readers
- I’ll be placing an ad for Run and Ride on the site, which will allow readers to click through to the retailer
- Where they stock a product, Run and Ride will help me get access to that product to review. Believe it or not, some manufacturers are not very willing to provide
kit. Especially if I have given less than glowing report in the past – Suunto Spartan as an example
- I will remain COMPLETELY independent on my reviews, if I say a product is great, I stand by it and crucially if I say a product is naff and you should look at something else, NO ONE, manufacturer or otherwise is going to change that. I have had manufacturers ask me could I change a point or two in a review. Not going to happen, my feelings or annoyances when using a product, as these are as important to me in a review, as
a devicespositive attributes
- There will be no “Hey guys Run and Ride are running a deal!!” type posts. I don’t have enough time as it stands to post as often as I would like!
- Where Run and RIde sell a product, I will include a link at the bottom of a review. If that product is also available at CyclePowerMeters.com there will be a link to both sites
Ok that is about it. So why not click through the Run and Ride and have a look
