KOM Cycling, a U.S. manufacturer, have produced a high-tech rocker plate for the ever growing community of serious indoor cyclists.
Whilst the hard science to prove the benefits of rocker plates, there is a lot of anecdotal evidence from those that use them. Personally, I’m to be convinced and we look forward to receiving a test sample from KOM Cycling (‘as soon as they arrive in the UK’) and I remain open-minded to their benefits. This model certainly looks amazing!
Why a rocker plate? Rocker plate fans state that the horizontal
movement decreases static pressure to your joints, creating a more comfortable immersive indoor cycling experience, that will keep you training all winter long. I train 10 hours per week on the turbo and have no issues and have never had…hold on – I did and it was all about the wrong saddle and a change in chamois (a.ka. nadger) cream.
However, as my good friend and World leading sports psychologist, Professor Andy Lane says ‘If something works, it works!’
An alternative to the rocker plate is training each day (I do this whilst making cups of tea – the 5 minute brewing time for the perfect cuppa), using a wobble/balance board; standing one-legged with my eyes closed and doing core strength exercises and weights.
However, if you want that extra on the turbo comfort, products like the KOM Cycling rocker provide a high tech solution to what was largely a Heath Robinson cottage industry of home workshop Fred Dibnas. There is a Facebook group that specialises in rocker plates and it’s worth looking up and visiting. https://www.facebook.com/groups/415329188897706
If you do not have the time, inclination and want something that looks futuristic, the KOM Cycling rocker could be for you?
This rocker plate comes with ‘inflatable balls’ and who wouldn’t want inflatable balls?! Something that we’d love to test is the true power output of a rider with and without a rocker plate and carried out of set periods of time. That’s one for the future…
The rocker plate has been tested with the leading turbo manufactures:
- Elite Cycling
- Wahoo Fitness
The units start shipping out early January 2020
